Sunmote

Hello, Today I have a pattern for this little doily :D  It's called Sunmote because it reminded me of the crafting reagent icon in World of Warcraft!  The doily has 19 rounds and measures about 6".  2 different sizes of thread are used- size 3 for the center and size 10 for the outer rounds.  I also tried using 2 strands of size 10 with a 3.25 mm hook for the center which can be substituted for size 3. 

This doily has front post crochet stitches, clusters, and picots in 3 different sizes.  The thread I used for the black and green one is Aunt Lydias size 3 cotton and Nazli Gelin Garden Space.  For the other ones I used Aunt Lydias size 10 cotton in ecru and Aunt Lydias size 3 cotton in the colors- sage, warm rose, copper mist, and warm teal.

This doily is 19 rounds and measures about 6" in diameter.

Color 1- size 3 cotton crochet thread- 20 yards

Color 2- size 10 cotton crochet thread- 50 yards

sc decrease- (uses next 2 ch-3 spaces), insert hook from front to back in next space and from back to front in next space, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw though 2 loops on hook.

small picot- ch 2, sl st in second ch from hook.

large picot- ch 4, sl st in fourth ch from hook.

fpdc decrease- keeping last loop of each fpdc on hook, fpdc around next 2 fpdc, yo and draw though all 3 loops on hook.

It is optional but recommended to block your finished piece.  Fill a bowl with water and add some liquid starch if you prefer the doily to be lightly stiffened.  Soak the doily and gently press out any excess liquid, being careful not to pull or twist on the stitches.  Lay it flat on a blocking mat and pin the doily working from the center out to the edges.  Allow the doily to dry completely before removing the pins.

Using next 2 ch-3 spaces, insert hook from front to back in the first space and from back to front in the second space.  Yarn over and pull through both spaces.  There should be 2 loops on the hook.  Yarn over once more and draw through both loops on the hook.

Front post double crochet (fpdc)

Step 1- yo and inset hook from front to back around the post of the next dc

Step 2- yo and pull up a loop.  There should be 3 loops on the hook.

Step 3- yo and draw through 2 loops on the hook.

Step 4- yo and draw through the remaining 2 loops on the hook.

Front post double crochet decrease on round 19 (fpdc decrease)

Using next 2 fpdc-

Step 1- yo and insert hook from front to back around next fpdc, yo and pull up a loop (there should be 3 loops on the hook).  

Step 2- Yo and draw through 2 loops.  There should be 2 loops remaining on the hook.

Step 3- yo and insert hook from front to back around next fpdc.

 Step 4- Yo and pull up a loop.  Yo and draw through 2 loops.  There should be 3 loops remaining.  

Step 5- Yo once more and draw through all 3 loops on the hook.

Heartblossoms

Hello :)  I've made a doily using the hearts from my last post and wanted to share the pattern for it!  Instead of medium weight yarn I used size 3 thread and a size 3.25 mm hook.  The doily has 12 rounds and measures about 11".  The pattern has written instructions followed by photo tutorials for attaching the hearts in round 5 and starting round 6.  There is also a chart at the bottom for the hearts.  Thread pictured is Aunt Lydias Fashion size 3 cotton crochet thread in the colors- bridal white, plum, natural, and warm blue.

This doily is 12 rounds and measures 11" in diameter.

If you are going to block the doily do that first before attaching the ribbon roses.  It is optional but recommended to block your finished piece.  Fill a bowl with water and add some liquid starch if you prefer the doily to be lightly stiffened.  Soak the  doily and gently press out any excess liquid, being careful not to pull or twist on the stitches.  Lay it flat on a blocking mat and pin the doily working from the center out to the edges.  Allow the doily to dry completely before removing the pins.

The final step is to attach the ribbon roses.  Cut a long piece of sewing thread and thread it onto the sewing needle.  Starting on the wrong side pull the needle through to the front (right side) and back a few times to lock the thread in place, ending on the wrong side.  Pull through to the front, this time going through the center of the ribbon rose.  Weave the needle back through the rose, and back through to the wrong side of your work.  Do this a few times until the rose is no longer loose.  Knot both ends together and trim off any extra thread.

Joining the hearts on round 5

Step One- After chaining 1 on round 5, take one of the hearts and place it underneath the doily.  You will be working in bottom loop of the heart.

Step Two- Make a slip stitch in the bottom loop of the heart.

Step Three- Ch 1.

Step Four- Dc in the same st on round 5 as the last dc made.

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!  Today I have a pattern for these little heart ornaments :)  They are made with medium weight yarn and a 4.5 mm hook.  I used  Caron Simply Soft yarn to make the ones pictured.  This is a good project for using up scraps of yarn!  Just a small amount is needed to make each one.

This pattern is 4 rows.  Finished size is 2".

Here is my attempt at drawing a chart lol, I hope that it makes sense!

The next part is to attach the loop for hanging.  

Step One-  Take the size 3 crochet thread and cut a 7" piece.  Fold it in half and thread both ends onto the yarn needle.  With the wrong side facing up go under the back loop of the center slip stitch on row 4 and the stitch below it.  

Step Two-  Pull through leaving a small loop.

Step 3-  Bring the needle back through the loop at the top.

Step 4- Pull slightly on both ends to tighten the loop and tie a knot at the top.

The final part is attaching the ribbon rose!  Cut a long piece of sewing thread and thread it onto the sewing needle.  Starting on the wrong side pull the needle through to the front (right side) and back a few times to lock the thread in place, ending on the wrong side.  Pull through to the front, this time going through the center of the ribbon rose.  Weave the needle back through the rose, and back through to the wrong side of your work.  Do this a few times until the rose no longer loose.  Knot both ends together and trim off any extra thread.

Moonpetals

Hello :)  The pattern i'm sharing today is called Moonpetals.  It is available for free on my blog, here is the link-  http://www.draiguna.com/p/moonpetals.html.  You can also find it in the patterns section.

There are 21 rounds and the finished size is about 11".  You will need 100 yards of size 10 cotton crochet thread, a 1.75 mm hook, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends.  

This doily has pineapples, picots, puff stitches, plus my favorite stitch- ch 3, dc in the third ch for the border.  The pattern is written using US terminology.  Special stitches used are- beginning (beg) puff stitch, puff stitch, picot, decrease, and cluster.  Photo tutorials for the beginning (beg) puff stitch and puff stitch are available here- http://www.draiguna.com/p/puff-stitch-tutorial.html.

Hearts in Harmony
