Starweave

Hello :)  I have a small doily pattern to share today called Starweave.  It's 13 rounds and measures about 8 1/2" going across from the corners.  You will need size 10 crochet thread and a 1.75 mm hook.

The thread I used is Aunt Lydias size 10 metallic crochet thread in the color white/pearl.  In person it has a shimmery iridescence to  it.  It was hard to photograph but you can kind of see it here-

This doily has 13 rounds and measures about 8 1/2" in diameter.

Stitch Abbreviations

ch- chain

sc- single crochet

sl st- slip stitch

st- stitch

yo- yarn over

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

tr- treble crochet

Special Stitches

2-dc decrease- keeping last loop of each dc on hook, dc in next 2 dc, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook. 

3-dc decrease- keeping last loop of each dc on hook, dc in next 3 dc, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

decrease- [insert hook into next dc and pull up a loop] 3 times, yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

cluster- ch 3, dc in third ch from hook.

picot- ch 4, sl st in fourth ch from hook.

Pattern Notes

Round 1 starts by making a magic ring. An alternative would be to ch 9. That would give 1 extra stitch to work into and the other 8 ch are the first dc and ch-5 space. Continue the round with- [dc in 9th ch from hook, ch 5] 5 times, sl st to third ch of first dc. (6 dc, 6 ch-5 spaces)

Round 1- Make a magic ring, ch 8 (counts as first dc and ch-5 space), [dc in ring, ch 5] 5 times, sl st to third ch of first dc.  (6 dc, 6 ch-5 spaces)

Round 2- ch 6 (counts as first dc and ch-3 space), [2 dc in next dc, ch 3] around, dc in same st as first dc, sl st to third ch of first dc. (12 dc, 6 ch-3 spaces)

Round 3- ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same st, sc around spaces from both Round 1 and 2, 2 dc in next dc, [ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, sc around spaces from both Round 1 and 2 (see photo 1 and 2 below), 2 dc in next dc] around, ch 1, hdc in third ch of first dc to make last ch-3 space. (24 dc, 6 sc, 6 ch-3 spaces)

Round 4- ch 6 (counts as first dc and ch-3 space), 2-dc decrease (see special stitches), dc in next sc, 2-dc decrease, ch 3, [dc in next space, ch 3, 2-dc decrease, dc in next sc, 2-dc decrease, ch 3] around, sl st to third ch of first dc. (12 dc, 12 ch-3 spaces, 12 2-dc decreases)  

Round 5- ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 space), dc in same st, ch 4, 3-dc decrease, ch 4, ✶ dc in next dc, [ch 1, dc] twice in same st, ch 4, 3-dc decrease, ch 4, repeat from ✶ around, dc in same st as first dc, ch 1, sl st to third ch of first dc. (18 dc, 12 ch-4 spaces, 6 3-dc decreases)

(12 tr, 84 clusters, 42 picots, 36 dc)

It is optional but recommended to block your finished piece.  Fill a bowl with water and add some liquid starch if you prefer the doily to be lightly stiffened.  Soak the doily and gently press out any excess liquid, being careful not to pull or twist on the stitches.  Lay it flat on a blocking mat and pin the doily working from the center out to the edges. Allow the doily to dry completely before removing the pins.

Single crocheting (sc) around spaces from Rounds 1 and 2

Insert hook into the ch-5 space on Round 1 and pull up a loop. Yo and draw through both loops on hook. The sc should be going around both spaces on Rounds 1 and 2.

Step One-Insert hook into next dc and pull up a loop.
